Introduction to Senate Candidate Bill English (R)

My name is William (Bill) S. English. I am a native New Mexican, and Alamogordian, and I would like to introduce myself to the members of the Republican Party of New Mexico and the Citizens of the United States, and also announce my intention to run for the United States Senate against incumbent Senator Jeff Bingaman (D) in the 2012 Elections. I assure you that this is not a joke.

While some of you may consider this move ridiculous and somewhat akin to spitting in the wind, I assure you that I am extremely serious about this and believe that in order to help prevent our nation from being destroyed and quickly dragged into socialism I can play an important part. Both for the State of New Mexico, and most importantly the United States of America.

What are my qualifications? Aside from the fact that I really am an American Citizen and have the birth certificate to prove it I have never held a political office, but I believe that my life experiences and up-bringing bring to the table qualifications that have been sorely lacking in our elected representatives since our founding fathers.  And in the interest of full disclosure, yes, I am a convicted felon. I was convicted of aggravated assault because I pulled a gun on a sexual predator who was raping my fourteen year old daughter at the time. My answer to any and all who wishes to bring this fact up is this. I put my neck on the line to protect my child from what I believe to be the most inhuman act imaginable. I’m willing to do the same thing for my state and my country. What are you willing to do?

In my youth, I hung around with the families of such notable politicians as Barry Goldwater, and Moe Udall, listening and learning as they discussed with my father and grandfather the politics of the day, and how things were done in both the House and Senate of the United States. What needed to be done and political ideologies. In a way I was witness to the birth of modern conservatism.

Through a stroke of luck, hard work, or fate was able to achieve great success in business. Then I lost it all. I have actually lived on the streets in Los Angeles, CA, and did what was necessary to survive. I pulled myself off of the streets and traveled to Virginia where I worked for several years on a farm and a Cattle Farm, so I know the value of hard work. I have a family and have had to worry about taking care of them, providing food and shelter for them, and extensive medical care, fighting for their rights to quality medical treatment. I know what the everyday American Citizen must deal with on a daily basis, and I know what will happen should our nation be allowed to continue on the course it is now on.

I come from a long line of politically active individuals. My father served in the Arizona State Legislature for over fourteen years and is a life long Republican. My grandfather was born in the Arizona Territories and over the years played an important part behind the scenes in helping to establish Arizona as a State. My son David Englan is a current member of the Virginia State Legislature, and while he is a Democrat, he shows an uncommon amount of common sense. I am very proud of him. My son Michael English holds a PHD in Law from Catholic University and is currently involved with Constitutional litigation in Washington D.C.

I understand and accept the fact that at this juncture in the election process, that is still far off in the future, the Republican Party, its members, and representatives are unable to give open support publicly. It is however my hope that this introduction will open the door to debate and the opportunity to openly and honestly answer your questions regarding my eligibility and my qualifications to represent the Party and the citizens of the State of New Mexico in the United States Senate.
